Q31) a: (i) Solid

b: Any Liquid (as long as it is matter)
Q32) a: The stone takes up space/ it has volume. [I do not accept mass]
b: 10 ml
c: 45 ml [0.5 marks will be deducted if units are not stated]
Q33) a: Noel is wrong. Sound does not have mass OR volume OR occupy space.
b: Any solid
Q34) a: The water is cold.
b: The water is hot.
C: The hot water heats the air in the bottle (0.5m) and causes the air to expand (0.5m).
Q35) a: Ronald added ice/ put it in the freezer. Must add something cold, not blowing/ stirring etc.
B: The water has become ice/ frozen/ changing to ice.
C: He heated the water/ added hot water. The water must gain heat.
Q36) a: Vase Y is made up if a material that does not allow light to pass through it while Vase Z is made of a material that allows some light to pass through it. [Must compare both vases, 0m if only vase Z is mention, 0.5m if only vase Y is mentioned.]

Q37) a: Move the wooden cube nearer to the screen/ the screen nearer to the cube/ move the light further away from the cube.

B: The plant has sunlight to make food (0.5m) because light can pass through the box (0.5m). [Both points are important!]
C: The material/ kind/ type of box.
Q39) a: Part A – Flower, Part B – Leaf
B: Part C holds the plant upright while Part D holds the plant firmly to the ground OR
Part C transports water to all parts of the plant while Part D absorbs water from the soil.
[Must compare according to similar function]
c: Part A ensures the continual reproduction of the plant OR Part B helps the plant make food.
[Both answers are accepted as long as the important function is listed. Answer in the negative will not be accept. For Eg, If part A is missing…. ]
Q40) a: Plant A does not have much roots to absorb water and nutrients for the plant to grow well. [Must show cause & effect]
B: The roots are not able to hold the plant firmly/well to the ground. [without firmly/well, 1m will be deducted]
Q41) a: Mouth: The saliva has digestive juices to start digestion
Gullet: The muscle help pushes the food from the mouth into the stomach
B: Small intestines: Digestion of food continues and is completed here OR
Digested food is absorbed into the body
Q42) a: Stomach
B: More digestive juices are added/ Digestion of food.
Q43) a: Material A or B, Please state relevant characteristics.
B: No, it is not flexible/ cannot be bent.
Q44) a: D
B: Any mammal that cannot fly and has hair on its body (except Bat).
Remarks:
Mistakes were generally on
Q34c: Students did not explain what causes the air to expand - the heat from the hot water,
Q35b: Qn was asking what happened to the water, [I do not accept the answer "The temperature has dropped to 0 deg". The temperature has in fact remained at 0 degrees.]
36a: Comparison was not made,
37a: Concept of making shadows was unclear - For sharper images, light source has to be further away from object, but the object has to be nearer to the screen,
39b: Comparison of functions does not match, For eg: Part C holds the plant upright while Part D adsorbs water.
Why this answer is not accepted for question 35? " Their temperature decreased to 0 degree Celsius"

a)The water is cold
b)The water is hot
because you marked me correct and for question c, you wrote,'The hot water...' and not cold water if the answer for b is cold.
